Eternals

Eternals, the 26th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is an upcoming superhero film based on the comic of the same name.

Starting in March 2019, a diverse cast was hired to portray the Eternals which include the depiction of an LGBTQ superhero. The Eternals have taken the identities of mythological beings across history; notably, Thena, Ikaris, Sersi, Makkari, Phastos are named after the Greek gods Athena, Icarus, Circe, Mercury and Hephaestus.

In the comics, the Eternals got into a brief clash with the existing Greek gods over the identity mix-up.

Marvel considered The Eternals to be a “perfect transition” into its next phase of films along with projects such as Captain Marvel (2019), as it allowed the studio to cast a diverse group of actors to portray the various Eternals. Eternals is scheduled to be released in the United States on November 5, 2021, as part of Phase Four of the MCU. The movie is set to release after Black Widow and Sang Chi.
